Originally from Brazil, I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Psychology. My career began with three years of experience treating smokers with chronic medical conditions and working with clients on a wide range of concerns in private practice. After relocating to the United States, I pursued my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Houston, where I gained valuable experience in various clinical settings, including private practices and a university counseling center.
As someone who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I have a deep personal and professional understanding of the challenges that come with chronic pain, medical conditions, and trauma. I know firsthand the frustration of navigating the medical system, seeking answers, and feeling unheard or invalidated in your pain. My mission is to help you realize that while pain is a natural part of life, suffering can be alleviated. Through acceptance, psychological flexibility, authenticity, and a sense of purpose, we can work together to reduce your suffering.
In our sessions, I aim to provide you with practical behavioral and emotional tools to help you manage your mental and medical health. My approach is rooted in Experiential/Mind-Body Theories (such as Mindfulness), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). I believe that true healing begins with connecting to our emotional states in the present moment and learning how to release what no longer serves us. Many of us are trapped in our thoughts and feelings, and challenging these patterns can be incredibly empowering and transformative.
I also take a holistic view of mental health, considering the significant roles that physical health, lifestyle habits, and spiritual practices play in overall well-being.
While my primary focus is on working with clients who have chronic medical conditions and trauma, I also have extensive experience helping individuals with substance use issues, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, relationship concerns, and those from culturally diverse backgrounds.

I provide therapy for teens, young adults and adults. As a counselor, I work with clients that are on their journey to heal from traumatic experiences, eating disorders, substance use, behavioral addictions, anxiety, depression, and unexpected life changes. I have often worked with clients that feel disconnected from themselves, and struggle with self-esteem and feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness.
I like to take a holistic approach and individualize treatments. I help my clients understand the underlying issues behind their behaviors and thought patterns. My goal is to help clients to reconnect with their authentic selves and restore hope to overcome the challenges in their lives.
Starting therapy can feel scary and intimidating. My goal is to provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can be vulnerable and feel comfortable discussing any issues, so we can work together in developing skills and tools to help you achieve your goals.
Originally from Brazil, Mylene is one of the co-founders of Cabelegria, a non-profit organization that started in her own apartment and today is one of the largest non-profits in Brazil. Cabelegria receives hair donations from all over the country to use to make wigs for patients suffering from cancer, alopecia, and other conditions that can cause hair loss – at no cost to them. With Cabelegria, Mylene worked closely with families facing the challenges of undergoing chemotherapy treatment. In addition, Mylene has experience working with several companies in Brazil, including PricewaterhouseCoopers and Grupo Abril, in roles within HR and Marketing.
Mylene has experience working for The Meadows IOP, conducting group and individual therapy for clients in need of higher level of care due to the acuity of their mental health issues. She has also worked with adolescents and adults experiencing eating disorders at Residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care for Monte Nido & Affiliates, providing group, individual, and family therapy, as well as supported meal exposure. Additionally, Mylene interned at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory as a mental health focused school counselor working with students to better their mental health and reach their academic goals. Mylene is a LPC-Associate supervised by Bridget McCauley of the Coping Resource Center.

I specialize in family therapy, working with teens, adults, and families to help them navigate challenges together. Whether your family is facing struggles related to trauma, eating disorders, addiction, or major life transitions, I provide a safe space for you to strengthen your relationships, improve communication, and heal as a unit. Many of the families I work with feel disconnected or overwhelmed by their circumstances. My goal is to guide you in developing a deeper understanding of each other and finding a path toward healing and growth.
I believe that families, with the right support, can overcome even the most difficult challenges. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, mood disorders, addiction, or issues related to disordered eating, I work collaboratively with each family member to create a plan that promotes well-being and resilience. Therapy is a space where your family can reconnect, address past hurts, and build a healthier, more supportive dynamic.
With over 16 years of experience in residential treatment programs, intensive outpatient settings, and private practice, I’ve helped countless families work through crises and develop lasting solutions. As Chief Clinical Officer at The Council on Recovery and Clinical Director for Monte Nido & Affiliates’ Clementine adolescent residential centers, I’ve led family-centered interventions to support families in their recovery journey.

I am a fifth-year counseling psychology Ph.D. student at the University of Houston. As a doctoral clinician, I provide therapy for adults, adolescents, and children who are wanting to gain strategies, skills, and support to better manage their mental health. I am especially excited to work with clients who have OCD to help them better understand their symptoms, gradually face their fears, and regain their freedom from OCD. I also enjoy working with patients with ADHD and Autism from a neurodiversity-affirming, disability justice lens to help them find ways to work with their brain, instead of against it. Other areas of clinical interest for me include body-focused repetitive behaviors (skin picking, hair pulling, etc.) and LGBTQ+ identity.
I approach treatment in an integrative way, bringing together a variety of interventions and theories to find a combination that best works for each patient. For some, therapy can feel scary or overwhelming at first. Thus, I aim to build a solid foundation of trust and open communication with each client to make sure they feel empowered and affirmed as a partner in their treatment.
Before joining the Coping Resource Center team, I completed practicum placements at the University of Houston Clear Lake’s Counseling and Mental Health Center, Baylor College of Medicine’s OCD Program, and Psychology Houston, PC.
